Name: Fair Winds Brewing Company
Address: Suites K&L, 7000 Newington Road, Lorton, VA 22079
General Description: Fair Winds Brewing names their beers within a nautical theme. Their brewers are well-known locally: head brewer Charlie Buettner was at Mad Fox for years, and Will Cook came over from Port City. In their mission, they note “We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all; instead we believe that craft beer, like food, should compliment the moment and add to the overall experience.” Their 30 barrel brewhouse leaves plenty of room for expansion, and the region should expect to see their beer frequently in the coming years.

Year Opened: 2015

Type: Production brewery

Flagships:

  • Quayside Kolsch (Kolsch / 4.9%) - “This beer is a light bodied, German-style Golden Ale. Pilsner and Munich malts provide a subtle, biscuity malt backbone balanced by the spicy flavors and floral aromas of the German Perle and Tettnanger hops.”
  • Sessions in the Abyss (Session IPA / 4.5%) - “A Pale malt base with a touch of Vienna and Oat malts provide a smooth breadiness to the bold citrus flavor and aroma. Amarillo and Citra hops for both boil and dry-hop additions bring out the classic IPA punch, while the low gravity allows for multiple pints.”
  • Howling Gale IPA (7.2%) - “This is our west-coast style IPA. Massive kettle additions and a double dry-hop process bring this brew to an explosion of hop flavor and aroma. The light body leaves a crisp, dry finish.”
  • Flemish Stout (Imperial Stout / 8.5%) - “An American Imperial Stout fermented with a Belgian yeast strain. Light coffee aroma with bitter chocolate and roasted malt flavors. Hopped with Green Bullet and Nugget hops to lend to the fruity finish of the Ardennes yeast. A classic style brewed with our special twist.”
