ANXO Hosts "A Wild Night: the Story of Basandere" to Benefit PPMW on Thursday

ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar and Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. (PPMW) celebrate International Women’s Day with “A Wild Night: The Story of Basandere,” an evening of ciders, cocktails and women’s health initiatives tomorrow, Thursday, March 8 from 7-9PM. ANXO is located at 300 Florida Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001. The event will highlight female cider makers, distillers and winemakers. In addition to products by the glass, the event will feature a female-produced cider flight and a special cocktail highlighting products distilled by women. 10 percent of sales from 7-9pm of products made or owned by women in the industry will be donated to Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C.

"A Wild Night" will feature Basandere, or "The Wild Woman," a protector of nature in Basque mythology. In conjunction with International Women’s Day, PPMW and ANXO Cidery & Pintxos Bar hope to bring people together to lift up the DC community in support of women all over the world. More broadly, the event highlights women’s health initiatives and women’s empowerment.

Members of PPMW’s Developing Leader Program, a 9-month program designed to train the next generation of leaders in the reproductive rights movement, will help execute the event, which will feature women’s health initiatives like PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis). PrEP is a once-daily pill taken to prevent your risk of contracting HIV by 90%.

“On International Women’s Day, it’s essential that we highlight women’s reproductive health,” PPMW President and CEO Laura Meyers said. “D.C. has one of the highest rates of HIV in the country, and women of color are especially at risk for contracting HIV here. By spreading the word about PrEP, we’re hoping to reduce D.C. women’s risks.”
