Hazel Welcomes Famed German Monk Pater Johannes of Benediktiner
May 16 @ 6:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Join us on Thursday, May 16th as we welcome famed German monk Pater Johannes of Benediktiner Brewery for a very special meet and greet on the Hazel patio!
Pater Johannes, a German Monk of the Benedictine order and proud guardian of 400 years of Benedictine brewing tradition, will be making his very first trip to the US. He will be joined by members of the German embassy for a convivial evening of beer drinking.
Since 1609, master brewers at the Monastery of Ettal in Bavaria have maintained the same time-honored tradition, using their secret Ettal cellar yeast and brewing under the strict supervision of the monks who live there. The proprietary Benedictine original recipe is strictly confidential. Pater Johannes carefully inspects every beer under the “Monk’s Glass,” a holy vessel for checking quality and clarity.
In honor of this special occasion, we will feature Benediktiner Hell and Benediktiner Weissbier, both brewed under Germany’s strict Reinheitsgebot purity laws. As an added bonus, we’ll pour two classic German beers, Bitburger Pils and Köstritzer Schwarzbier, courtesy of our friends at St. Killian Importing.
There is no admission fee for this event. All featured beers will be priced individually by the glass.
